A library should spark curiosity, not just store books. Abu Dhabi Children’s Library turns reading into a full sensory experience, blending culture, play, and learning. Every corner invites children to explore, create, and engage with stories beyond the page. The space brings literature to life through interactive landscapes, artistic workshops, and digital storytelling zones. This is where young minds grow, not just by reading, but by experiencing knowledge in unforgettable ways.
FEELS LIKE A GIANT POP-UP BOOK
Tucked away within the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi, where history and creativity merge, this library redefines learning. It is not just a collection of books but a multi-sensory experience that ignites young imaginations.
Covering 5,250 square meters, the library unfolds across three levels, each reflecting the UAE’s landscapes. Vast desert dunes, tranquil oasis streams, and rich cultural elements shape its immersive environment. Through books, storytelling zones, technology-driven learning areas, and artistic workshops, it transforms education into an engaging adventure.
What makes it even more unique? It feels like stepping into a giant pop-up book—where every corner, every room, and every design element sparks curiosity.

A LIBRARY THAT IS NOT JUST ABOUT BOOKS
Unlike traditional libraries that simply provide bookshelves and seating areas, the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library transforms the act of reading into a full sensory experience. From the moment children step inside, they are not just readers—they are explorers, artists, storytellers, and creators.
The library does have books—a vast collection, in both Arabic and English—but reading here is an adventure. The physical environment is designed to let children engage, move, and interact with stories in ways beyond just flipping pages.
For example, instead of a quiet corner for reading, there is a Book Mountain—a large, open amphitheater-like space where kids can sit, read, sketch, watch films, or even climb up and down as they absorb stories.
And yet, this is only one of many imaginative spaces.
STEP INTO A WORLD OF IMAGINATION
Each section of the Children’s Library is carefully designed to reflect different elements of nature, culture, and history—allowing children to learn not just through books, but through surroundings that stimulate their imagination.
THE DUNES: DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE DESERT
Ever wondered what it feels like to walk over the soft, golden sands of the UAE’s vast deserts while reading a book about nomadic Bedouins? This space lets children climb and explore sand dune-like structures, sit on camel-shaped seats, and listen to tales of the desert’s ancient travelers.
Here, books about wildlife, geography, and history of the region take center stage, creating an immersive learning experience that goes beyond text.
CREATURE SPACE: A WORLD WHERE ANIMALS AND IMAGINATION MEET
This isn’t just a reading section—it’s a place where the natural world comes alive. Children can interact with life-sized models of local animals, hear sounds of the wild, and learn about the rich biodiversity of the UAE and beyond.
From majestic Arabian leopards to the tiniest desert creatures, this area nurtures curiosity about the environment and helps young minds develop a deeper appreciation for nature.
ART WORKSHOP: WHERE LITTLE HANDS CREATE BIG IDEAS
In a dedicated 300-square-meter space, young artists can draw, paint, sculpt, and experiment with different creative mediums. This workshop isn’t just about arts and crafts—it’s about self-expression.
Whether it’s designing their own book covers, learning to sketch landscapes, or experimenting with colors, every activity here encourages children to think beyond the page.
STUDIO SPACE: WHERE TECHNOLOGY AND STORYTELLING MERGE
In today’s world, storytelling goes far beyond books. At the Studio Space, children can record their own podcasts, create short films, experiment with animation, or even learn to code.
With the latest technology at their fingertips, they can step into the world of digital storytelling, blending traditional storytelling techniques with modern digital skills.
This is where the future writers, filmmakers, and innovators begin their journey.
A COMMUNITY BUILT AROUND LEARNING
Beyond the physical spaces, the Children’s Library fosters a true community of learning and creativity. It regularly hosts storytelling sessions, workshops, author meet-and-greets, and interactive performances.
Free membership is available for children up to 15 years old. Each member can borrow up to seven books for 21 days—with access to electronic books, databases, and weekly activities.
For younger children, the Toddlers Area offers early learning programs, while parents can engage in family reading sessions to encourage a shared love for books at home.
REDEFINING HOW CHILDREN EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE
What makes the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library unique is its philosophy—learning must be dynamic and interactive. Books transform into gateways, leading children toward broader, more immersive experiences beyond traditional reading. In today’s digital world, this space proves that books, creativity, and culture remain incredibly magical. Children can escape into fantasy, climb a book mountain, or record their very first podcast.
This library serves as a playground for imagination, a haven for education, and a hub for creativity. A new generation of thinkers, storytellers, and dreamers takes shape—one book and adventure at a time.
