Few Things, Endless Discoveries

Running for Hope in Dubai: Terry Fox Run

In a city of ambition, one event carries a deeper meaning—Terry Fox Run in Dubai. Each year, thousands gather, not to compete, but to honor a lasting legacy. This is more than a run; it’s a movement for hope and change. People of all backgrounds unite, proving small steps can create big impacts. On March 8, Dubai runs, walks, and stands for a future without cancer.

A LEGACY THAT DEFIES TIME AND DISTANCE

Dubai, a city of endless ambition and bold vision, is about to host an event that transcends the ordinary. The Terry Fox Run 2025, set for March 8, isn’t just a gathering of runners—it’s a movement, a shared promise, and a tribute to one of the most inspiring figures in modern history.

Terry Fox’s story isn’t just about endurance; it’s about defying limitations. In 1980, at just 21 years old and after losing his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, he set out on a mission no one had dared to imagine: to run across Canada, one marathon at a time, on a prosthetic leg. His Marathon of Hope covered an astonishing 5,373 kilometers in 143 days before cancer forced him to stop. He never finished the run, but the world picked up where he left off.

More than four decades later, his vision lives on in places far beyond Canada’s borders—including Dubai, a city that understands perseverance, resilience, and breaking barriers.

A COMMUNITY MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER

Dubai has embraced the Terry Fox Run since 1994, making it one of the longest-running charity events in the UAE. Each year, thousands of participants lace up, not for competition, but for a shared cause: funding critical cancer research. This year, the run takes place at Al Forsan Park, Expo City Dubai, an ideal venue where innovation, unity, and purpose come together.

The event is open to everyone—families, friends, colleagues, and solo runners—regardless of fitness level. The two available distances, 2.5 km and 5 km, ensure that whether you choose to walk, jog, or run, you’re part of something bigger than yourself. Registration opens at 7:45 AM, and the run begins at 9:00 AM, setting the stage for a morning of purpose, camaraderie, and unwavering determination.

FRED FOX: A BROTHER’S TRIBUTE TO AN UNFINISHED DREAM

This year’s run holds a special significance with the participation of Fred Fox, Terry’s brother, who continues to champion his legacy around the world. His presence serves as a powerful reminder of the run’s origins and why it still matters today.

For many, the Terry Fox Run is more than an annual event—it’s a personal mission. Families affected by cancer, survivors, and those who simply believe in a better future come together, walking the path Terry started. And with every step taken, every heartbeat racing towards the finish line, the message is clear: this fight is not over.

NOT A RACE—A RESOUNDING DECLARATION OF HOPE

Unlike traditional races, there are no first-place trophies or podium finishes at the Terry Fox Run. There’s no pressure to beat personal bests or outpace others. The only race that matters is the one against cancer, and every single participant is a winner in that fight.

All proceeds from this event go towards the Al Jalila Foundation, a UAE-based organization committed to groundbreaking medical research and cancer treatment advancements. The entry fee is set at AED 30, but for those wanting a commemorative T-shirt, an additional AED 100 goes directly to funding research.

If running or walking isn’t an option, there are countless ways to contribute. Volunteers play a crucial role, from handing out water to guiding participants along the route. Every role, no matter how small it may seem, is an essential part of the bigger picture.

A CITY RUNNING TOWARD A FUTURE WITHOUT CANCER

Dubai is a city built on vision and ambition. Skyscrapers rise, artificial islands reshape coastlines, and impossibilities fade. Some battles, however, need more than engineering and financial power. They demand human connection, collective action, and unwavering resolve.

That’s what the Terry Fox Run represents—people uniting for something greater than themselves. They believe science, research, and persistence can truly save lives.

For participants, the journey begins before the starting line. It starts with choosing to be there. Every step carries Terry’s dream forward until cancer is defeated.

Whether you run, walk, cheer, or volunteer—your presence matters. On March 8, at Expo City Dubai, be part of a global mission. When a community runs together, hope moves faster than ever.
